Vintage Omega Seamaster Bumper Automatic early 1950's era
This early 1950's stainless steel Omega SeaMaster Automatic is, simply put, an icon! It was one of the very first “SeaMaster” models to utilize an early commercialized form of automatic winding, known as a “bumper automatic”.
Utilizing Omega's Caliber 342 automatic winding movement, this system uses a weighted oscillator, not unlike a pendulum seen in old clocks, that bounces back and forth to wind the main spring, as opposed to the 360 degree rotation of a weighted rotor seen in modern automatic movements.
This timepiece captures what we all love about vintage watches. A perfectly patina'd dial using Arabic, Breguet style numerals at 3, 9, and 12, with a large sub second dial at the 6 o’clock position and, unlike later models, has the SeaMaster designation under the Omega logo at the 12 oclock position.
Coupled with the iconic original “SeaMaster” case design with its wide lugs and still retaining the original clover style Omega crown. Unlike many SeaMaster models of this era the case is still in excellent condition with bright factory polishing, sharp edges and clearly defined beveling on each of the lugs, all of which are normally polished away over the years.
This one will not last long so take the opportunity to own a truly iconic vintage Omega at a fraction of the cost of today’s modern SeaMasters. As with all of our vintage offerings this piece has been fully serviced, regulated, is provided with a one year full warranty and is sold and shipped in our felt travel pouch.
